Uncle Stan as I knew him was a radio operator in the Lancaster Bomber during W.W.II. During one mission comprising a large group of planes to fle y to Germany, he decided to strip his radio and clean it. However, the mission was recalled and all the planes returned to base in England except his. They flew on to Germany and were astonished to find that they were aboard the only plane to reach the target. At first they thought they were in the wrong place but after repeated checking that they were in the right place, they dropped their bombs and returned home safely. Naturally, he was severely reprimanded and went on to survive the war.
