Biography

Marie Modeste was born about 1736. She is the daughter of Louis Antoine Hebert and Anne Marie Labauve.

Around 1749 the family settled on Isle Saint-Jean. The 1752 census shows that they were residing at Rivière-du-Moulin-à-Scie, Isle Saint-Jean (now Prince Edward Island) with their children Jean, Théotiste and Modeste. They owned land and one horse. [1]

    Louis Hébert dit Baguette, ploughman, native of l'Acadie, aged 58 years; he has been in the country three years. Married to Marie la Bauve, native of l'Acadie, aged 60 years.
    They have one son and two daughters:-
    Jean Hébert, aged 22 years.
    Téotiste, aged 18 years.
    Modeste, aged 15 years.
    They have one horse. The land upon which they are settled is located as in the preceding cases, it was given to them verbally by Monsieur de Bonnaventure. On it they have made a clearing of two arpents in extent.
