The farm of Buffelskraal was one of the first in the Hex River valley, and the first Daniel Hugo, living in Drakenstein, rented it for grazing purposes. His son, Pierre, went there to actually live on the farm, and received the 'original' freehold grant for 60 Morgen, Farm No 481[10]. Read the whole story in VASSA journal, number 8, "Buffelskraal, on the Hex Rivier" by André Pretorius[11]. It describes how the next Pierre started Hartebeest Kraal, leaving Buffelskraal to his brother, Jacobus. When Jacobus died, he left Buffelskraal to his son Jacobus Petrus, who moved to Winterhoek at Tulbagh.
Eendragt
Eendragt was a rather large farm, up out of the Hexriver valley, behind a number of other farms that were later also associated with the Hugo and de Vos families, around the sources of the Hex River: Stinkfontein, Ezelsjacht, Zoutrivier, and Koutai.
On 14th Jul 1750, Pierre received the original grant to the 60 Morgen of Freehold of Eendragt[12].
After Pierre's death, on 18 Mar 1757, the Eendragt was sold for 1700 Rijksdaalders to Louis Nel[13].
In 1765, Lous Nel sold the Eendragt to Gideon Jansz Joubert[14].
The Freehold must have been complemented by the larger area around it, that officially became the Quitrent farm Wor.Q.8-5 when measured out in 1832 for the wid. Alexander de Kok (indicating the 60 Morg of Freehold).
