Harry was born on 11 October 1957, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Harry F Ide and Violet Diem.

I've been working on genealogy since the early 1990's, when my aunt developed a dementia, and I realized that if I didn't collect family stories and information, they'd be lost. I started working on the 91st Pennsylvania Infantry not long after that, when I heard a family story that someone had served in the regiment, and I thought giving my young son a personal connection to the war might make history more vivid for him. It worked--but I became fascinated by the regiment and am still studying it.

Hi Harry, I hope 2024 has been a good year for you :) Here is the link to the newest G2G question: US Civil War December 2024/January 2025 Newletter. You'll find several links there. Also, just for fun, you might like to share a family tradition or favorite recipe with the group :)
Hi Harry, many thanks for the quick reply on the DNA question - between your answer and the examples linked to your profile page, I now have better understanding the best way forward. Thanks again, Nigel
Hello Harry, thank you for your request to be added to my trusted list to help clean up some locations. My tree was uploaded via gedcom and it's taking forever to cleanup! I added you and appreciate your assistance.
It’s Germany Project check-in time again! Please respond within the next 2 weeks and let me know if you’re still interested in participating with the Project. Remember, the only requirements for membership in the Germany Project are (1) that you work on at least one German profile every 6 months and (2) that you respond to this check-in.

If you ever have any questions, please ask. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
I am going to drop out of the Germany Project for now. I'm afraid I overestimated the time and energy I had to work on a new area, and underestimated how much I need to do in my old areas (as is very clear to me as I'm adding 1950 US censuses to profiles sigh). Hopefully I'll be back in the future!
Hi Harry, I just wanted to thank you for all the work you've done to improve the US Civil War Between the States Project. I'm doing a check-in with all project members and wanted to verify that you're still interested in being a member of the project. Also, any suggestions for the Project would be welcome. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Sure, though I'll be honest--I don't know how much time I have to add to it. (My life feels a bit crazy right now!) But I'll do what I can.
One interesting question that might be worth pursuing. I've read that no one knows whether the German Ides are related to the British Ides. Studying DNA might give us useful evidence.
As you have been a member of WikiTree for about a week now I thought I would check in to see how you are getting on with the site.
