Notes

Note NI16310Elizabeth - or Lizzie as she was most commonly known as - had 14 children 13 of which survived beyond infancy. She worked hard to raise these, and frequently also cared for other children through family emergencies or to help children who had to move into town to go to High School. 1

When her first child, Cyril, was an infant, she put him in the "buggy" on the porch and went inside for a few minutes - when she came out, he was gone. The sheriff was called, and a lady was stopped as she was boarding the train with the baby. The lady was a Mrs. Bohnen - when John had come back from the war, he had a garage in Melrose and stayed at Mrs. Bohnen's house. She felt that the baby should have been hers, so simply took him. 1

After the death of her husband John, Elizabeth continued to drive taxi on the White Earth Reservation until 1986. She loved to play cards. She sang as she worked - when she had finished her canning she would stand in front of her shelves admiring her efforts and would occasionally sing a Latin hymn of thanks. 1

Although she never went beyond the third grade, she was whiz at mathematics. Her daughter Terry tells the story that the day Cyril's ship was sunk during the Battle of Midway, she was in the kitchen with her mother, Elizabeth, when 3 drops of water fell from the Latin. Elizabeth turned and said that "something has happened to Cyril". Thankfully her son, though injured, had survived - so many sailors had not. 1

Elizabeth was a strong, independent woman who contributed to her community through her volunteer work into her 90's.

Your "Notes" actually reads like a good Biography. You might want to move it to the Biography section.

Illies-58 and Illies-26 appear to represent the same person because: This is a previously unmerged match (for three years) with no explanation. Illies-58 and Illies-26 are obviously for the same person. Please merge or explain why they could not possibly be the same person.
