Daughter of Louis Illmer and Winifred Rogers.

Religion: Quaker

She was the author (one of four co-authors) of two beginning college texts on computer science. They have been translated into 15 languages including Chinese. She taught mathematics at Vassar and Smith Colleges, UCLA, University of Utah, Stanford University and for 14 years in the Palo Alto Unified School District.

She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi and many professional societies. She was also active in the Audubon Society and the Sierra Club, and was a docent for Stanford's Jasper Ridge biological preserve.
