In 1637, as the colonies went to war against the Pequot Indians, Jonathan Ince, was among the Hartford settlers who were part of the Connecticut colony levis who fought in that war.[1]
Jonathan was an early member of the church and an original proprietor at Hartford.[2] He was granted a lot in 1639,[2] #98 on the map, although the map calls him Jonas. Jonathan left Hartford, and his lot was forfeited and then granted to John Culick 28 July 1640.[2]
The church records in Hartford recorded that Jonathan Ince died in 1666, but an official record or probate document has not been located, nor is it known where he died.[3][2]
It is believed that Jonathan went to Boston. Savage says he removed there and died there, but does not give a date.[4] We do know there was a younger Jonathan Ince at Harvard in 1652. The coincidence of this unusual name leads one to believe that these two men were probably father and son.
When was Jonathan born? Jonathan was old enough to fight in the Pequot war 1637, so before 1619. He had a land grant in 1639, so before 1618. If the Jonathan of Harvard was his son, and that Jonathan was born circa 1630-35, based on his 1654 marriage and his presence at Harvard in 1650, so before 1610, but certainly could be 20 years prior to that say 1590.
Who was his wife? Unknown. There are few records for Jonathan and none for a wife.
