Likely born in Philadelphia or nearby. He is recorded in the 1900 US Census as living in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, being 16 years old and at school.
He died of influenza causing double pneumonia in late 1918. This was likely the Spanish influenza of 1918, which was particularly virulent and caused many and widespread deaths. He left three young children on his death.
He was buried in St. Thomas churchyard, Whitemarsh, Pennsylvania.
