Biography

Abraham Ingram was born about 1743 in Augusta, Colony of Virginia, son of Abraham Ingram (~1721–>1790) and Rhoda Collins (1719–1800).

Abraham (31) married Elizabeth Slaven, daughter of John Slaven and Elizabeth (Stuart) Slaven) in 1775 in Augusta. They had 17 children:[1]

Abraham's estate was settled on 19 Aug 1817 in Harrison County, Virginia (now in West Virginia).[2] An exact record of his death has not been located, but he does not appear (as living) in any records past 1817. There is a memorial for Abraham online.[3]

Research Notes

The FindAGrave memorial has his birth year as 1743 and his death date, as 14 Feb 1817, but no sources are attached to these dates. The same dates show up in many online trees, but they are either unsourced or they use FindAGrave for their source. Familysearch.org uses 1743 as his birth date and 14 Feb 1817 as his death date, but also does not have any source info, other than FindAGrave. Here are the problems with those dates:

  • FindAGrave does not have a photo of his headstone, and indeed, there are no Ingram headstones in the cemetery.
  • According to FindAGrave, there are only two memorials in the cemetery - Abraham Ingram and his wife, Elizabeth. There are no records of the cemetery nor who is buried there, outside of FindAGrave.
  • There is a portrait photo attached to Abraham, yet he died in late 1817 or 1818 before portrait photography was created.
  • There are errors in his written bio, just one being that they moved to Indiana in 1795, but moved back to Harrison, Virginia by 1810. This is illogical, since Indiana didn't become a territory until 1800, and few settlers moved there before then.
Several published histories state that his birth year was about 1750. While they also don't include sources, one wonders why the unsourced FindAGrave is the one generally chosen for his birth year.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Abraham by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Abraham:

I have Ingram in my family tree and reviewed the data to see if could be associated to my tree. I am uncertain to the profile association to my family tree, but did merge Ingram-3202 and Ingram-13 because they appear the same.

Ingram-3203 and Ingram-13 appear to represent the same person because: Following merge of wife pages for Elizabeth Slaven - same spouse, similar birthdates, profile creators already agree that spouse is the same person.
