Biography

The family lore says Joseph was born at sea in 1800. Either the birthdate is incorrect or he was not born at sea. His father came to America in 1792 from Ireland and settled in Chester County, South Carolina. If he was born in 1800 he was probably born in South Carolina.

Joseph INGRAM resided in the Valley District, Harrell’s Precinct when the 1830 federal census of Talbot Co., GA was taken (Davidson 1990:7)

Joseph INGRAM and J. McCALLA were appointed administrators of the estate of Robert INGRAM, decd. Security was Robert INGRAM - $1000 bond, 5 November 1838 (Talbot Co., GA Guardians, Executors Bonds p. 22).

Joseph’s family [he and his children] "was all tall and large" (J. W. Ingram 1936).
