Funeral services for Earnest Allen Ingram, age 91 of Lineville, will be Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Lineville Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Colquett and Rev. Scott Jordan officiating. Burial with Masonic graveside rites will follow in the Lineville City Cemetery.
Mr. Ingram passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at his home. He was born September 14, 1922 in Ashland, AL, graduated from Clay County High School and was a member of Ashland Methodist Church. He lived his whole life in Clay County, AL except for two years serving his country as an electronics instructor in the Air Force during World War II.
Upon graduation he married Evelyn Taylor of Lineville, where the couple lived, and became members of Lineville Baptist Church. After military service he returned to Clay County to run the family theaters in Ashland and Lineville for another thirty years. Many of the young men he employed returned with their families to visit and share fond memories. During the 1960’s and 1970’s he and his wife ran Ingram’s clothing store in Lineville.
Mr. Ingram served one term as a member of the Lineville City Council. He was elected Clay County Tax Collector and subsequently Clay County Revenue Commissioner for 18 years before retiring around 1994. He enjoyed campaigning and diligently tried to visit every home in the county each election. Mr. Ingram was also a member of the Lineville Masonic Lodge and a Shriner.
Mr. Ingram is the son of the former Earnest Frank Ingram and Alta Allen Ingram of Ashland, AL. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Taylor Ingram of Lineville; his son, R. Allen Ingram (Lynn) of Oneonta; his daughter, Lynn Ingram Seal (Charles) of Lexington, KY and their son, Jeffrey M. Seal (Mary and their daughter Adrienne) of Covington, KY; his siblings: Justice Kenneth Ingram (Judy, deceased) of Ashland, Alta Mary Sanders (Dr. Bill Sanders) of Prattville, AL and the former George M. Ingram (Patsy) of Ashland.
Pallbearers will be Clay Ingram, Maury Ingram, Alton Thompson, David Thompson, Jeffrey Seal and Andrew Sanders. Fellow Masons and Shriners will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. and until 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday.
