Biography

From her age at death, 79, Sarah Inkpen was born in 1762 and she is likely the child baptised on 17 Oct 1762, in Sturminster Newton, Dorset, England, to John and Elizabeth Inkpen. She married William Tuff on February 5, 1788, in Sturminster Newton, Dorset, England. They had ten children in 15 years but several died young. She died on February 2, 1841, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, having lived a long life of 79 years.

  Will of Sarah Tuff?from Newfoundland will books volume 1 pages 359 & 360 probate year 1841 In re?     Sarah Tuff       deceased. In the name of God Amen, I Sarah Tuff widow of Western Bay in the Island of Newfoundland being in perfect health and sound in mind & memory do make this my last will and testament viz. Principly and first of all I give and bequeath to William Tuff, John Tuff, Elizabeth Moores, Mary Penny and Ann Garland my children and William Tuff son of William my grandson all the money that shall be due to me at the time of my death now in the hands of Mr. Joseph Bird Merchant of Sturminster Dorset, England, and also all the money that shall be found in my house at the time of my decease each of whom are to have an equal share after all the expenses of my last affliction & my burial (which I request may be decent) and the putting of a headstone to the head of my grave next to that of my departed husband and all my other lawfull debts shall have been paid. My grandson William son of William shall have an equal share of my money with my own children provided he remain with me untill my death but not otherwise.?I give and bequeath to my grandson William Tuff son of William my half of the fishing room my half of the meadows and gardens as left by my late husband now in my occupation and also my cow house store house and the large bread chest in the store house also the dwelling house I now occupy together with all other outhouses belonging to me at the time of my decease. I give and bequeath to my said grandson William the son of William the bed that he now uses with all the cloathing belonging to it and all the loose boxes about the premises and also a Heifer if I possess one at the time of my death. I give and bequeath to my son William Tuff all my live cattle not before mentioned that shall be found in my possession at the time of my decease provided that he give to my other children goods or money to the amount in value of an equal share to each.?I give and bequeath to my three daughters Elizabeth Moores   Mary Penny and Ann Garland all my wearing apparel that shall be found in my possession at the time of my decease to be equally divided by themselves and not by the executors of this will.?I give to my daughter Ann Garland the bed which I now use with all the furniture belonging to it.?I give to my grandson Joseph the son of William Tuff the chest which belonged to his uncle Joseph.?And all the furniture and goods that shall be found in my house at the time of my decease not otherwise willed shall be equally divided among my own children and my grandson William Tuff the son of William Provided nevertheless that should my grandson William Tuff the son of William aforesaid die without lawful issue my grandson Joseph Tuff the son of William Tuff shall possess inherit and enjoy all the right title and interest that his brother William Tuff my grandson possessed inherited and enjoyed or would have inherited possessed and enjoyed had he lived; in my half of the fishing room my half of the meadows and gardens now in my occupation or left by my late husband also my cow house store house and the dwelling house I now occupy the same as if they had been willed to him my said grandson Joseph Tuff the son of William Tuff provided also that should my son William die and leave his son unprovided for he shall be provided for by whichever of the brothers (that is whether William or Joseph) possess inherit and enjoy the property above named.
