Margaret was born in April 15, 1875.[1] Margaret is the daughter of William Innes and Euphemia Ramage.
In the 1881 census Margaret (age 5), Scholar, was the daughter of William Innes in Cairns Close, 16, High Street, Haddington, Haddingtonshire (East Lothian), Scotland.[2]

Margaret Innes (age 19) was married on October 5, 1894 in Edinburgh to James Black (age 21). James, a journeyman baker, was the son of James Black, a mechanical engineer, and Janet Hunter. Margaret is described as a 'baker's assistant'. James’ address is given as 2 Court Street, Haddington while Margaret lives at 16 High Street, Haddington. Margaret’s father, William, (deceased) is described as a coachman. One of the witnesses is Jane Innes, Margaret’s older sister. [3]
In 1901, Margaret Black and her husband James are living at 43 Market Street, Haddington with their sons Archibald & William. Archibald is 5 and William is 2. Both children were born in Haddington. James is described as a Baker (Journeyman) and the census states he was born in Kirkcaldy. Their other child Effie Black, born 1897, is residing with Margaret's sister Euphemia and their mother in 1901 in Haddington.
By 1911, the Blacks have moved down the road to 32 Market Street and there are now seven children: Archibald is 15 and a baker’s apprentice and William is 12 and at school. They’ve been joined by James (9), Maggie (6), Jane (5), Elizabeth (3) & Mary (1). The census reports that Margaret has given birth to nine children and that all of them are still living. The missing two children were Euphemia Glendinning Black, born 1897, & Janet Hunter Black, born 1902, who were residing at that time with Margaret's sister Euphemia and their mother, also in Haddington.
In 1912 Margaret and James had a son, Robert Emslie Black, in Fife.
Margaret Black died on October 16th 1955 in Dunbar aged 80. The cause of death is given as coronary thrombosis and her address is 21 Doon Avenue, Dunbar. Her son Archibald, of 1 Seafield Crescent, Belhaven, Dunbar is the informant. Her husband, James, had predeceased her.[4]
