Jane Innes was born on 28 Oct 1813, and christened on 27 Mar 1814 at Bethesda Chapel (Independent) in Duncan Street East, Liverpool. She was the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Innes.
By June 6th 1841, Jane's mother was living in Liverpool Road, Eccleston with her children Jane, James and Lydia; she was of independent means.
By March 30th 1851, Jane's mother was keeping a lodging house in Nevill Street, North Meols. Her daughter Jane was living with her, and they had a 14-year-old house servant from Prescot, Mary Cunnings.
By April 7th 1861, Jane and her mother were keeping a lodging house in Aughton Road, Birkdale, Lancashire (in Ormskirk district).
