Joshua IRBY:
Living in Halifax Co. Va. then in 1789 moved to York District SC in Sept. or Oct. 1780. Father sent John to Saluda River SC to see his uncle, Joseph Irby. When he got there he found Captain Cunningham of the Tories had killed Joshua and sons Joseph and Grief in Jan. 1781. This was called the Hays Station Massacre. John then joined the US forces to get away from the Tories. There is some question among Irby researchers about Grief, possibly being a cousin or nephew rather than a son. [1]
