William Irby came to Virginia in the early 1660’s at least that is when he first appears in the records there. He is apparently the same William Irby who was in Barbados in the 1650s. Barbados was a Cavalier stronghold during Oliver Cromwells time in England and it is likely that Charles II rewarded William when he came to power in England. The Halifax County History suggests William had received a grant from the king. Dr William Irby died in the 1670s when the sons divided their inheritance and sued each other over it. It appears that all three sons were born in Virginia. In 1714 William Irby Jr left Virginia to settle some business in England, which was likely due to the death of a relative there. he made his close relative, on his wife’s side, William Randolph his adm while he was away. Most likely the business had to do with his wife’s family because his step son, Maiden Mascall, also made the journey with him. Maiden was the son of Richard Mascall, Elizabeth’s first husband before she married William Irby at William Randolph’s house. In the mid 1750s Joshua Irby jr and Joseph Irby are listed in the same Chesterfield County tax lists as Dr Joshua’s son Anthony Irby and Dr Joshua Irby’s widow Jane Irby with her father William Beasley. This Joshua was probably the illegitimate son that Joshua Irby had with Mary Blyth in the Bristol Parrish records In early 1730. He would have turned sixteen about the time he was being kicked out of doors with a single shilling. [email address removed]

Irby-652 and Irby-59 appear to represent the same person because: Clearly duplicates and must be merged before the duplicate children are merged.
William Irby, the probable father of Joshua Irby, Sr., is listed in Ancestry.com's immigration databases as arriving in America (Virginia) from Barbados in 1714. Therefore, if Joshua is indeed a son of his, he would not likely have been born in America... "The Annals and History of Henrico Parish, Diocese of Virginia and St. John's P.E. Church", transcription on Ancestry.com, lists a marriage in 1694 between Dr. Joshua Irby and Elizabeth Ludson, on 28 October... I have been researching for years, and have not been able to verify yet more concrete information on this line... I do not know why there is an "unknown Jane" listed as a wife for him; this was not entered by me.
The William Irby listed in the immigration records in 1714 was William Irby Jr returning from England with his stepson after settling affairs there, it was probably something to do with either his wife’s family or Richard Mascall’s family in England.
