Biography

Living in New Haven, Ct. in 1884.

Miriam Evelyn "Eva" Nettleton was reportedly born on 12 Aug 1861 in West Haven, New Haven Co, CT[1] (source needed for the 12 and the place within CT). She was the daughter of Albert Gallatin Nettleton (1814-1882) and Eugenia Maria Humphrey (1822-1899).

1870 US Census:[2] Evalyn was listed as 9yo and born in CT. She was living with her parents Albert and Eugenia Nettleton, along with several older siblings, in Orange, New Haven Co, CT.

1880 US Census:[3] Evalyn was listed as 19 and born in CT. She was living with her older sister, nephew, and parents in Orange, New Haven Co, CT. Her father is shown as born in CT, while her mother was born in NY.

Eva married Purdy Ireland (abt.1853-1896) about 1880, probably in CT.[1] They went on to have three children:

  • Bessie Eudora (Ireland) Stevens (1882-1908)
  • Frederick Louis Ireland (1883-1964)
  • Rena (Ireland) Dunn (1885-1980)

1900 US Census:[1] "Eva Ireland" is shown as 39yo and born in Aug 1861 in CT. The record lists her marriage to "Perdie Ireland" (Purdy) as taking place in 1880. Perdie and Eva are living with their son Louis (17; CT) and daughter Rena (14; CT) in New Haven city Ward 8, New Haven Co, CT.

After the death of daughter Bessie in 1908, her son, Louis D Stevens, came to live with his grandparents.

1910 US Census:[4] Eva was listed as 48 and born in CT. She and husband Purdy (54; NY) were living in New Haven Ward 8, New Haven Co, CT with their grandson, Louis D Stevens (12; CT).

1920 US Census:[5] Eva is listed as 58 and born in CT. She is living with husband Purdy (66; NY) and grandson Louis Stevens (21; CT) in ED 355, New Haven Co, CT.

1930 US Census:[6] Eva is listed as 69yo and born in CT. She is living with husband Purdy (75; NY) in New Haven, New Haven Co, CT.

Eva died on 20 Apr 1935 in New Haven, New Haven Co, CT.[7] No burial record has been located.

Ireland-1060 and Nettleton-158 appear to represent the same person because: The Ireland-1060 profile was created years ago, wrongly using her married name instead of name at birth. The information needs to be merged into the correctly-named Nettleton-158 profile.
