Mention: 18 Jan 1640 From the records of the Leathersellers' Company: Samuel was made free by patrimony on 18 January 1640, and was chosen onto the livery on 12 June 1657. [Letter from the Archivist of the Company to James Sanderson, May 1998]JS. Poll Tax: 1641

Will: 1696 Leighton Buzzard BED [119 Bond]. Wife Frances (F59). Son-in-L Robert ARCHER and his wife, my dau, Ann ARCHER (A742), and their children Margaret, Joseph, and Anne ARCHER. Dau. Martha PAWLETT (M455). Granddau Frances DISNEY [not identified]. Dated 12 Jan 1694, proved 3 Jul 1696. Text: In the name of God amen. On the 12th January in the year of our Lord 1694, I Samuel Ironside of Leath and Neath in the parish of Leighton Buzzard in the County of Bedfordshire, Esq. [I suspect this should be "Heath and Reach" - see entry for dau. Ann - MHK]. Being weak of body but of good and perfect mind and memory praise be to God and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me made and particularly a will by me made and left in the hands of George Newland? of London, scrivener, which is as the said George Newland informs me, by some person unknown, surreptitiously gotten out of his hands, pretending that I sent him for it when in truth I did not and I do hereby particularly declare the same will to be void. I do make and ordain this my last will and testament in writing in manner and - following - that is to say first I command my soul to Almighty God that gave it and my body to be decently buried at the discretion of my executrix hereinafter named. Item. I give and bequeath unto Frances my loving wife all my silver plate whatsoever and do by this my Will and Testament declare that I have bargained and said unto Joseph Curiny ? the Mann - ? of - the Capitall and the grounds and warren? called Chading? Wood and all the other lands and tenements with their appurtenances in the pariah of Soulbury in the county of Herts? which I had purchased of Edward Merrydale ? esq the father and Edward Merrydale? the son. To have and to hold after the death of me the said Samuel Ironside and Frances my wife and the survivors of us to the said Joseph Curing? and his - forever. Item. I bequeath unto my son in law Robert Archer Esq six pounds. Item. I bequeath unto my daughter Ann Archer wife of the said Robert Archer six pounds. Item. I give to Margaret Archer my granddaughter six pounds. Item. I give to Joseph Archer my grandson six pounds. Item. I give to my granddaughter Anne Archer six pounds. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Martha Pawlett six pounds. Item. I give and bequeath to my loving friends Jacob Pennington gent and Mary his wife each of them a twenty shilling piece of Gold called - to buy each of them a king - . All the rest and residue of my household stuff goods and chattels not herein before bequeathed My debts and legacies my funerall and this my will discharged and performed I give and bequeath to my said loving wife Frances if she does not marry another husband then I give the said rest and residue of my goods and chattells unto my granddaughter Frances Disney to have and enjoy presently after such marriage.
