Although multilingual and steeped in classical education, he decided he'd prefer the life of a starving artist to one of an academic. He lived on uppers and downers and hard-boiled eggs... He died young, but he was a tremendous success in a small circle of rather grand friends. He knew the writer Cyril Connolly and was responsible for getting Angus Wilson into print. As well as painting and drawing intricate surrealist pictures, Robin also wrote a great deal for magazines such as Encounter and Horizon.. Mention: (Robin ~) in "Who was Who" 1961-1970 vol VI.
