Elizabeth Eggleton Irvin[1]
was born on 14 October 1865,[2]
at 1636 Helmuth Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,[2]
to William John Irvin Senior and Catherine Harton.[2]
Her middle name is uncertain.
On her death certificate, her second husband (Samuel Shannon) reported her mother's name as 'Elizabeth Egglity', perhaps because he thought her middle name was 'Egglity'.[3]
But on her first marriage application, she spelled her middle name 'Egelton'.[4]
This is a more reliable report, because it is earlier, comes directly from Elizabeth, and explicitly reports her name.
Her daughter Jane told her daughter that the middle name was 'Eggleton'.[1]
Also, some records report her name as 'Elizabeth B. Shannon', but the 'B' presumably stands for 'Boyd' (her first husband's family name).
[5][6][7]
She has not been found in the 1870 census.
She is not living with her brothers William and Gerard, who were living with their grandmother Elizabeth.
[8]
In 1880, she seems to be the 'Lizzie Shickling' living with her mother, and stepfather John Shickling, at 1634 Pine Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
She was attending school.
[9]
In 1910, she was living on Marshallton Road, New Castle County, Delaware.
She was living with her husband Samuel F Shannon, their son Richard, and seven of her children from her first marriage.
[12]
In 1920, she was living on Lincoln Highway, in Christiana Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware.
She was living with her husband Samuel F Shannon, six children from her first marriage, and a boarder.
[14]
In 1930, she was living on Lincoln Highway, in Marshallton, New Castle County, Delaware, in a house they owned, which was worth $10,000.
They had a radio.
They were living with their son, and five children from her first marriage.
[15]
In 1935 and 1940, she was living on Capitol Trail, Cranston Heights, Christiana Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, with four of her sons.
It was worth $10,000.
She was not working.
[10]
She died on 19 July 1943, at her home, in Marshallton, Christiana Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware, of chronic myocarditis, due to rheumatic heart.
She was buried on 22 July 1943, in grave 3, lot 54, section A, Marshallton, Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington, Delaware.
