John Irvine was born about 1700 in Ireland. He died about 1788 in Virginia. He is buried in the Hat Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Campbell County, Virginia. [1]

This profile was adopted by Elizabeth Harris on December 8, 2013. I have made the following changes in the original entry:

Removed "Robert" as a middle name.

Marked the birth date and birth place as uncertain. There is a stone at Hat Creek Presbyterian Church erected in his memory, but this was done years after his death. I would like to see better documentation of these dates. All available information does suggest he was born in northern Ireland, but I don't think we have proof that it was in Londonderry.

Removed "Peters Township, Cumberland, Pennsylvania, USA" as his death place. He almost certainly died in Virginia. This is probably a confusion with someone else.

Previously he was linked to Robert Irvine and Margaret Wylie as parents, but Margaret's profile states that she died in 1674, well before John was born. i have removed these links, as of October 20, 2016.

The child Jo Anna does not appear in the history of this family by Julia Asher and Marian Asher Fawcett, of Hat Creek Virginia.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share DNA with John:

I've approved the pending merge with Irvine-385. When this merge is completed, I suggest that you omit his father's name and his middle name, unless you can provide solid documentation. I have seen NO evidence that he had any middle name, and the putative family history in northern Ireland in the book Irvines and Their Kin has been discredited by more recent research. His birth in Londonderry is also uncertain.

Irvine-404 and Irvine-385 appear to represent the same person because: Birthdate is 1700

I adopted this profile on December 8, 2013, after seeing that it was orphaned and that it contained what I believe is erroneous information. 1) I know of no evidence for his having a middle name, nor did his wife; 2) His parents and siblings are not known for sure - the names that were listed here came from a flawed genealogy written many years ago; 3) Although he came from northern Ireland, I don't think his birth is documented either as to date or precise location; 4) So far as we know he died in Virginia, not Pennsylvania
