I've been researching some pictures I recently purchased, painted by William Irving. I believe this is one of the William Irvings, recorded in your family tree and that he was an artist of merit. Accompanied with the 4 pictures is a letter addressed, from a solicitor, to a William Irving of Ainstable, which the seller assumed was the artist, but this is impossible as the letter is dated 1866 and artist William Irving was also born 1866. I suspected that artist William Irving's father was also named William, and your family tree confirmed this. Email from Keith Southgate.
