John Hamilton Irving was born on 17 Jan 1796 in Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia.

On 19 May 1818 at St. Philip, Sydney, New South Wales, John married Anne Marie Partridge.^[1] It appears that Ann lied about her age, to appear younger than her husband.

The couple later emigrated to New Zealand, where they resettled.
