Biography

The son of Joseph Irwin (1867-1942) and Catherine Downs (1873-1947), Arthur was born in Mackinaw Township, in Cheboygan County, Michigan, in 1905. His father had migrated to Michigan from New York, and his his mother had migrated from Maryland, and they had taken up farming in Cheboygan County..^[1][2] Arthur had two siblings:

1. Alton J. (1899-1901)
2. Clarence Roy (1908-1965)

Arthur married Mary (Diver) Irwin in Detroit on November 23, 1927.^[3] They initially made their home in Detroit, where Arthur worked as a supervisor at a steel shop.^[4] Later on, they lived in Orchard Lake and then in West Bloomfield.^[5] He passed away in Pontiac, Michigan in 1985, residing last in West Bloomfield.^[6]
