Biography

John Irwin was born 1802/1803 in Cavey Townland, Parish of Errigal Keerogue, Co Tyrone, Ireland.

He is the son of Thomas Irwin and Isabella Dunbar.

John Irwin married Jane Isabella Kirkpatrick about 1828 Ballygawley, Co Tyrone, Ireland, and have three children born in Ireland and five children born in Australia.

John Thomas Irwin and Jane Isabella Kirkpatrick Irwin emigrated to Sydney, Australia 13 July 1837, arriving on the Adam Lodge that departed from Londonderry Ireland on 29 March 1837. with sons Thomas, James and John Edward who were born in Londonderry, Ireland.

John and Jane Irwin lived in Sydney until 1840, moved to Morpeth Road, East Maitland. then about 1847 moved to Bandon Grove. He was a blacksmith and engineer. Their other children born in New South Wales are William Frederick Irwin, George Orr Irwin, Robert Kirkpatrick Irwin, Mary Ann Irwin and Richard Dunbar Irwin.

They have eight children.

1. Thomas Irwin born 1830.

2. James Irwin born 1833.

3. John Edward Irwin born 1835.

4. William Frederick Irwin born 9 October 1838.

5. George Orr Irwin born 1841.

6. Robert Kirkpatrick Irwin born 12 July 1844.

7. Mary Ann Irwin born 1846.

8. Richard Dunbar Irwin born 22 December 1849.

John Irwin passed away 10 July 1875 at Tillegra, near Dungog, New South Wales.

He was buried at Anley's Flat Cemetery, now Dungog Cemetery, NSW Australia.
