Esther Irwin Heasty is listed in Virginia Watson's genealogy of one of the Jones families of Sparta, Wisconsin from the 19th Century. [1] She is known as the wife Joseph Gould, the mother of Sarah A. Gould and mother in law of Stephen J. Roberts, the grandmother of Ward G. Roberts and Esther E. Roberts, the great grandmother of Stephen M. Hanson and Constance J. Hanson, and the great great grandmother and beyond of living people.

Her approximate birth year is 1823 in County Monaghan, Ireland. She was Protestant and Scotch-Irish. She immigrated to the United States, almost certainly in the 1850s, although there is not yet any proof. She married Joseph Gould November 12, 1860 in Kane County, Illinois. [2] Their only daughter (and only child) Sarah A. Gould, was born in 1861 and was nine years old at the time of the 1870 US Census. [3]

Her husband, Joseph Gould served with Union forces during the US Civil War and was released from the Army in 1865 in poor health. See his profile. The family moved to Sparta, Wisconsin, and is shown to live in Wisconsin in the 1870 Census, records for which are not listed at the municipal level. The family is shown to have moved to Sparta, Wisconsin in the 1880 Census. Esther died in 1883. She is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sparta. Her tombstone reads "Mother Gould". [4]
