Edith French Irwin was born about 1920. She was a daughter of Reverend W H Irwin.
Edith married war correspondent, Chester Wilmot on 25th April 1942 in the chapel of the Collegiate School of St Peter, Adelaide. Chester was transferred in his work as a war correspondent to England shortly afterward. They remained living in England after the war, having three children. Chester was killed in an aircraft crash in 1954, returning home from an assignment.
Edith continued to live in their home near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire with their three children. In 1991, she presented Chester's papers to the National Library of Australia; some 55 cartons worth of documents![1]
