Cumberland County, Pennsylvania church records of the 18th century By F. Edward Wright, page 35: Big Spring Presbyterian Church; Listed are James Irwin and Isabel Irwin

James and Isabella living in Cumberland Co, PA in 1806 (named and place specified in probable brother Samuel Irwin's will and in brother-in-law David Robb's 1819 will)

Reference to brother-in-law James Irvin in legal Power of Attorney of Ensign Robert Robb dated 1809 in the "Life and Times of John Robb the Elder"; his surname was Irwin per David Robb's will [1], and he was married to sister Isabella Robb.

The following is the will of a James Irwin who may be the same person; his named wife is Isabella.

Pennsylvania Wills and Probate Records, 1683-1993 Mercer Will books, Vol 1-3, 1804-1853

  • I, James Irwin, late of Northumberland County but now of Mercer in the State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind but very weak in body, and knowing the uncertainty of life and the Certainty of death: think it a duty I owe to myself and my family to direct what shall be done with my worldly property after my decease so that no injustice may take place amongst my heirs and others concerned.
  • First after I am decently buried without any unnecessary expense and after all my just debts are paid, and every necessary charge to complete a final statement of all my unsettled accounts is laid in and paid off, I will and bequeath unto my loving wife Isabella Irwin the whole residue of my estate, real personal and mixed, to be disposed of in such manner and to such persons as she think proper and in order to be perfectly understood and to remove all doubts which might arise on the subject, I hereby declare it to be my will and pleasure that no part of my estate whatever either real personal or mixed be given to any one or more of my children whose names I have directed should be enrolled in this my last will and testament.
  • To wit: Margaret Irwin alias Graham (being the wife of Thomas Graham), Rachel Irwin, William Irwin, Andrew Irwin, Mary Irwin, Jean Irwin alias Scott (being the wife of Joseph Scott) Mathew Irwin and Isabella Irwin, my Youngest, being eight in number; And I hereby nominate constitute and appoint my well beloved wife Isabella, to be Executrix of this, my last will giving and hereby granting to her besides what is given and granted above, full power and authority to carry into effect this my last will and testament.
  • According to the true intent and meaning hereof this testimony whereof the said James Irwin hath here unto set his hand and seal (after having it plainly read) this eleventh day of October, One thousand eight hundred and nine.
  • Read Signed and Acknowledged in our presence the day and the year last above mentioned.
  • Signed Jas Irwin
