The death of Hugh M. Irwin occurred at his home, 75 Elizabeth street, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Irwin had been in ill health for over a year and had been confined to the house for the past two months. Hugh M. Irwin was born in Ireland sixty-six years ago, and came to America when he was 12 years old. Forty- five years ago he came to Ogdensburg, and had lived here ever since with the exception of a few years residence in Watertown.. In 1862 he enlisted in the 106th New York Infantry and served until the close of the Civil War. He was married thirty-three years ago to Nancy McRoberts, of Oswegatchie, who, with six children survive: Kate and Maggie C. Irwin and Mrs. G. L. Northrup, of this city John M., of Watertown; Iroquois, of Malone, and Etta May Irwin, of New York. The deceased was a marble cutter and for many years has been in the monument business here. He was a member of Watertown Lodge, No. 49, F. & A. M., and also a member of Ransom Post, G. A. R. The funeral will take place from the family residence at 2 o'clock, Sunday afternoon; interment in Ogdensburg cemetery.[1][2]
