John Irwin was born about 1819 in County Londonderry, Ireland, son of John Irwin ( –1859) and Martha Fleming (~1788–~1848).[1]
A 1903 biographical sketch of John's youngest brother Samuel lists the children of John Irwin (–1859) and Martha Fleming (~1788–~1848) as "William, James and John, who died in Ireland; Nancy J., who (first) married Thomas Culverson, and (second) William Hutton, and died in Philadelphia; Mary (deceased), who married Alexander Hutton; Martha, who married Joseph Irwin (no relation); and Samuel."[2]
John married Mary Ann Oliver (born in 1801 in Leeke, County Londonderry; daughter of William Oliver). Their children were:
Griffith's Valuation, published in 1854, shows John leasing three parcels of land in Leeke from Michael Mullan.[3]
When John's father, John Irwin (–1859) died in December 1859, he named his son, "John Irwin of Leeke," as his the eventual inheritor of his land and property after the death of his brother James.[4]
John died on 8 June 1895 in Derryork, County Londonderry, aged 75.[5] [6]

21 Dec 1859 I John Irwin of Derryork Parish of Boveva County of Londonderry Ireland. This twenty first day of December one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine. Being now in my sound mind and Judgment. I do hereby make null and void all former wills or documents of whatever nature they may have been.
First I bequeath to my Brother James all my Property both chattels and landed during his natural life, and at his decease that the landed property becomes the property John Irwin of Leek.
To Anne Watson I bequeath the sum of thirty pounds sterling.
To Margret Jane Irwin (daughter to Easter Watson) I bequeath the sum of fifteen pounds sterling
To Martha Irwin now of Philladelphia America I bequeath the sum of twenty pounds sterling
To John Irwin old I allow him free during his natural life the House he now occupys and the sum of five pounds sterling.
To Jane and Anne Cairns of Derryork I bequeath the sum of two pounds 10 shillings sterling to each.
this together with all my lawful debts to be charged against the afore said mentioned property with Burial expenses and all debts Legacies expenses are to be chargeable as a mor[t]gag[e] against the Landed property as a debt inherited and liable to be paid by the afore said John Irwin successor (to James Irwin) at the time he becomes Heir of said aforementioned landed property and as executors of this my last will and or testament.

To the Registrar appointed by act of Parliament for Registering Conveyances deeds Wills etc. A Memorial of Indented deed of Conveyance bearing date and Executed the twenty eighth day of June One thousand eight hundred and seventy four and made between John Irwin of Derryork in the County of Londonderry farmer of the one part and John Oliver Irwin of Derryork aforesaid in said County of Londonderry farmer Son of the said John Irwin of the other part whereby after Reciting as therein It was witnessed that the said John Irwin for the considerations therein mentioned with the consent of the Commissioners of Public in Ireland as therein mentioned did Grant and Convey unto the said John Oliver Irwin his heirs and assigns All that And those part of the Town and Lands of Derryork in the. Barony of Keenaght and County of Londonderry containing twenty-seven acres, one rood and seven perches Statute measure or there about with the app[..]ts as Granted by therein recited conveyance of first May One thousand eight hundred and Seventy four and described on the map Annexed thereto To hold the said Laws and premises thereby Granted or intended so to be unto and to the use of the said John Oliver Irwin his heirs and assigns for ever subject to and charged with an annuity of nineteen pounds in favor of the Commissioners of Public Works in Ireland and their Successors for the term of thirty five years from the first day of July one thousand eight-hundred and Seventy three and also Subject to the clauses covenants conditions and agreements in the said Indenture of first May One Thousand eight hundred and seventy four and which said deed contained the usual covenants and which said deed and this memorial were respectfully Signed and duly Executed by the said John Irwin and witnessed by Benjamin ?
