Biography

Abram L. Isaac, my husband, our father and grandfather, was born October 11, 1881 in Kleefeld, Manitoba. He departed this life April 13, 1962 reaching the age of 80 years, 6 months and 2 days.

He married Katherine Friesen October 26, 1904, and the following spring they moved to Aberdeen, Saskatchewan, where they made their home. They lived there for 13 years. In the Spring of 1918 they moved to Hockstadt, Manitoba where they farmed until the fall of 1937. After retiring from active farming they moved to Steinbach where he served as manager of the Bethesda Hospital. In 1944 they left Steinbach and took up residence in Kleefeld, where they made their home until the time of his death. In the fall of 1961 his health began to fail and he had to seek medical aid.

In the spring of 1913 he was converted and was added to the Church of God in Christ, (Mennonite). In times of distress and sickness our father was an ever present help to friends and neighbors, especially during the influenza epidemic of 1918. He was also a great lover of nature, which is evidenced in the well-planted hospital grounds in Steinbach and their home grounds at Kleefeld. The last time he attended church services he testified to the goodness of God and was grateful for the many prayers rendered in his behalf. During our father's last days in the hospital he expressed his desire to go to his heavenly home and we feel confident that he has gone to his eternal rest. Father leaves to mourn his companion, our mother, one son, Daniel and wife Katherine of Sinclair, Manitoba; five daughters: Elsie and Fen Leader of Inglis, Tillie and Anthony Reid of Winnipeg, Nellie and Pete Fast, Julia and Klass Barkman, Leonore and Henry Isaac, all of Kleefeld; 24 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; one sister, Mary; 2 brothers, Frank and David also of Kleefeld. One son, Leonard, preceded him in death September 14, 1940, and one son-in-law, John Harris, December 13, 1945.

Among his possessions we found the following verse:

Apart, yet not afar, Only a thin veil hangs between The pathways where we are, And God keep watch 'tween me and thee, This is my prayer, He looks thy way, He looketh mine, And keeps us near.
