He moved to Gilsum, New Hampshire, where he married Chloe Carpenter, the daughter of Jedediah and Mary Carpenter on 21 December 1793. She had been born in Rehobeth, Massachusetts, and had also come to the area with her parents.[2] They settled on the land that he had cleared the previous year. In about 1800 he had completed a frame house to house his family.
