- Kenneth Davidson Israel, The Children of Israel (2332 Buttonwood Dr Jacksonville FL 32216: Kenneth Davidson Israel, 1981), p 4 Michael Israel, a son of Solomon Israel is believed to have been born about 1736. At the present time (1981) the place of his birth is unknown to this writer. This writer has assumed that Michael Israel was about 21 years old in 1758 when he obtained an original grant, number 32, of 82 acres in Albemarle County, Virginia. (Book 1, Plat 1, Surveyor's Book, Albemarle County, Virginia) Furthermore, Michael Israel served as a border ranger in defense of the frontier in 1757. (Henning's Statutes, p 67) At that time, Michael Israel could have been age 16 or more, but possibly 19 or older.. Hereinafter cited as The Children of Israel.
- Jewish Archives, Rabbi Malcom H. Stern; In 1987, Jane Greenwrote to the American Jewish Archives in New York to see if they had any record of Solomon Israel. Rabbi Malcolm H. Stern had seen the Israel name in the History of Albemarle County, by Rev. Woods. Rabbi Stern replied in part: "But the best answer I can give you on antecendents is that like most Jews from Northern Europe, Solomon had no surname until he arrived in England or America from either Germany or Poland, the source of most Jewish immigrants of that period. He was undoubtedly known in the Jewish community whence he came as SOLOMON ben (=son of) ISRAEL, and chose his patronymic as a surname. Although New York had a Jewish congregation that traces its origins to 1654, there are no records prior to 1728 when they were building their first synagogue. You are correct in assuming that SOLOMON would have been dropped from the synagogue on his marriage to non-Jewess". https://www.geni.com/people/Michael-Israel-Sr/6000000008944082627
