Private Aaron Ivey served with 4th Virginia Regiment (1777), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Aaron was born in about 1756 to Adam Ivey and Mary Peebles, and christened on 4 Apr 1756 in Albemarle Parish, Virginia. He had at least 10 siblings: Mildred, Jesse, Ephraim, Winifred, Peebles, Christian, Timothy, Amy, Sampson, and Mason.

FamilySearch Life Sketch of Aaron Ivey: Aaron was a Revolutionary War veteran, having served in the same regiment as his brother, Peebles. He was named in the will of his father, Adam Ivey in 1789. Aaron remained in Sussex Co and appears on tax lists through 1799. The state census shows him as head of a household of five, including a wife & three children. He gave permission for the marriage of his daughter, Eady Ivey to Eldridge Ivey in 1801. His will dated 7 May 1805, proved 5 Dec 1805, Sussex Co, names his wife Elizabeth (maiden name not known) and daughters Eady Ivey, Ranay Ivey and son Thomas Simmons Ivey. His widow Elizabeth was alive through the 1830 census and was deceased by 19 Dec 1834 when an inventory of the Aaron Ivey estate was recorded.

He married about 1778 to Elizabeth "Betty" Franklin. He may have been about 21 years old. They had at least 4 children together:

  1. Edith "Eady" Ivey
  2. Thomas Simmons Ivey
  3. Luraney "Raney" Ivey
  4. Fannie Ivey?
  • Fact: (1782) Sussex County, Virginia (Continental Census)

He is named in his father's will dated 3 Aug 1789 and proved on 7 May 1792 in Susses County, Virginia.

Several of his brothers migrated to Warren County, Georgia in the early 1800's. Aaron may have already been deceased when they left Virginia, or died soon after.

  • Fact: Last Will and Testament (7 May 1805) signed and dated by Aaron ivey of Albermarle Parish, Sussex County, Virginia; names his wife: Elizabeth Ivy; daughters: Eaday Ivy, Fanna and (George?); Ranay Ivy (Toam?) and Channa; son, Thomas Simmons Ivy & Juday. Witnesses: John Tate, William Griffin, and John Nicholson. Proved: 5 Dec 1805.

He passed away in 1805 at about the age of 49. It is not known where he is buried.

In the will of his sister, Winifred, dated 31 Mar 1808, proved in 1808, names his wife and daughter, Elizabeth and Luraney.
