Biography

Susan was born about 1693 to George Ivey and Elizabeth Langley. She had at least 6 siblings: George, Gilbert, Elizabeth, Mary Rebecca, Adam, and Henry.

There are no records to indicate her birth year, whether she was married or when she died.

It can be presumed she was born in Virginia, because records seem to indicate her father was born in the Colony of Virginia. She was most likely "of age" in 1718 at the time of her mother's will, probated in 1718. It is likely she was born before or about 1700.

  • Fact: Will of Elisabeth Ivey, Probate (26 Apr 1718) Prince George County. Names daughter, Susan.

It should be noted that in the "Genealogies of Virginia Families" historical record, she is named as Susan (Hays). There are no indications she was married to a Hays. There is a Susan Ivey, married to a Gilbert Hays, but that Susan is more likely the daughter of Adam Ivey. The will of Elizabeth Ivey, widow of Adam, bequeaths one gold ring to her daughter, Susan Hays.
