Biography

This is the first member of the Ivey family to come to America. Thomas married Anne Argent prior to coming to America.[1]Thomas arrived in 1735 on the ship, Rebecca .

Anne was deceased by the time her own Father's will was probated in England, she is mentioned as are her children

"The Ivey family originated in France where they were known as St. Ives. They migrated to England after the Norman Conquest in 1066. The Iveys prospered in England & according to the records they were fanatical in their devotion to the Church of England." [2]

Thomas, son of Thomas Ivey and Lettice Culpepper was born in England[3] in 1604. [4]

It is not definitely proven that he was son of Thomas, but the evidence is strongly in favor of the theory.[4]

Thomas married Anne Argent[4]

He emigrated about 1625.[4]

He passed away in 1652.[citation needed]

Children:[4]

  • Thomas
  • George
  • John
  • William
  • Ann

"The Ivey Family in the United States, by George Franks Ivey (Southern Publishing Co., 1941) provides an ancestry for this Thomas Ivey (referring to a supposed son of Thomas Ivey and Lettice Culpepper) which appears to be purely speculative. For instance, it provides no evidence of the connection to his alleged parents, Thomas Ivey and Lettice Culpepper. As best I can determine there is no evidence that this couple had a son named Thomas, much less that he was the same person who immigrated to Virginia... In fact, there is evidence that Thomas Ivey’s mother was named Jane." [5] There are only three proven children of Thomas and Ann. The Lower Norfolk court records identify two sons, Thomas and George, both of whom were born in Virginia after 1637. His father-in-law’s will identifies a daughter named Ann, who apparently either returned to England or never came to Virginia. Various published genealogies add two more sons, John and William, though the former appears to be unrelated and the latter is fictitious

It's not possible for Thomas to be the son of Lettice Culpepper given that her own parents were not married until 1598 and she herself was born about 1605, after the birth of her supposed son. His father must have been a generation earlier.

Ivy-185 and Ivey-110 appear to represent the same person because: The profile manager who objected to the merge of these obviously duplicate profiles has removed herself as profile manager. The merge may now go through.

Ivey-110 and Ivy-185 do not represent the same person because: The dates have been changed to make them match. The dates that were shown when they proposed the merge to begin with one was the Uncle and one was the nephew. The information should be reinstated.
