Research Notes

Sterling is the illegitimate son of Ephraim Ivey. There is no record of a marriage between Ephraim and Winifred Pate. See Winifred Pate's profile for an explanation of their relationship. Before Ephraim died, records indicate Sterling's name is Sterling Pate; after the will was proved, Sterling used the name Sterling Ivey. Most family researchers use "Sterling Pate Ivey" or "Sterling Ivey Pate".

Military Headstone Application states he was buried in the Ivey Cemetery, near Warrenton.

Obituary record from the Warrenton Clipper (image found on Ancestry.com) states he died of old age on 7 Dec 1879 at age 89. Married 2x, and that he is buried on M.V. Halls place, old family burial ground in Warren County, Georgia. M.V Hall is his daughter, Mary Marietta, who married Isaac Birdsong Hall.

The obituary record also states he served in the wars "Savannah, 1812, and FLA in 1814".
