Research Notes
Birth: It's possible she was born in Floyd County, Georgia to James M Ivey and Mary Frances Mathews. Some ancestry.com users have attached this family to Mattie Ivey, but there is no corroboration of this connection. Given Name: Almost all records state her given name as Mattie, except on her husband's WWI draft record, it is listed as "Viola Mattie Stroup". Surname: Her marriage license records her last name as "Ivey" but her husband's death certificate lists her name as "Mattie Ivy Stroup". Death: She was enumerated in the census record for 1940 and her husband's death certificate dated 1942 lists him as widowed. It is presumed she would have died between 1940 and 1942. Burial: There are no death records for her and no accounts of her burial. She could possibly be buried in Tennessee with some of her children, or in Walker County, Georgia, her last known residence. Her husband's death certificate states he was buried in Ringgold, Georgia, but a cemetery is not listed. On his FamilySearch profile, a user entered his place of burial as the Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park in Rossville, Walker County, Georgia, but no documentation to support it. Ringgold or Rossville could be a likely burial location.
