Research Notes

Lydia's birth and death is recorded in the Family Bible of her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Fincher, married to Ephraim Ivey of Upson County (son of Dinkins Ivey). The census records of her children indicate she was born in North Carolina.

Family researchers on Ancestry.com indicate parents of Ephraim Ivey (1751-1840) from Virginia and Celia Finch from Georgia. Celia is not likely her mother because their marriage record is dated 1801 in Warren County, Georgia. There is also no evidence that Ephraim lived in North Carolina. Almost all of Ephraim's children were born in Virginia before 1782 and he relocated to Warren County before 1800. Lydia is also not mentioned in his will. So it is not likely that Ephraim is Lydia's father. Ephraim's sister, Winifred, names a "Liddy Ivey" in her will, dated 1808 in Virginia. No relationship is identified; however, it is presumed this "Liddy" is her sister-in-law, Lydia Pate (c1762-aft 1840), married to her brother, Peebles. Ephraim also had a son named, Dinkins, married to a Lydia Hodgin. Dinkins' son, Ephraim (c1803-c1860), married Mary Elizabeth Fincher, the daughter of Lydia Ivey and Isaac Fincher. More research is needed to follow the extended family line of Ephraim Ivey (1751-1840). There may be a connection with some of his cousins who migrated to Orange County, North Carolina, and maybe further south to Upson County, Georgia.
