Biography

Luke was baptized 16 Jan 1605/6 at Offley, North Hertfordshire District, Hertfordshire, England,[1] the son of William Ivory and Susan Unknown. He passed away in 1679.

Luke (mistranscribed as Coke) married Elezabeth Hembrel on 5 November 1634 in St Mary, Ealing, Ealing, Middlesex, England.[2] In 1639 he was living with his wife in Old Brentford.[3]

In 1645 there was a defamation case where George Ives of the King's Household had called Luke a "cozening cheating knave", the document is unfortunately in Latin.[4]

In 1668, Luke was the subject of a Plea Bill over the whereabouts of his deceased employee Richard Mills' wages and personal estate. Mills v Ivory Plea 1668

In the 17th century, there was a shortage of small change and tradesmen somewhat illegally produced their own. Luke had one of these farthing tokens, stamped Lvke Ivory of Old Brentford Chand[ler][5]
