Benjamin was baptised on 19 May 1726 in Paul Cornwall, the son of Nicholas Jacka and Honour Downing.[1]
Benjamin married Mary Down by licence on 31 December 1784, Paul Cornwall, England.[2]
Benjamin died suddenly in December 1794.[3]
"leaving property to his son Peter and a sum of £40 to daughter Elizabeth with his ‘dear wife Mary’ to live in their house until death or remarriage as long as she kept it in good repair”
However, the Will was not proved until much later on 20 September 1816, by that time both
"the Executors Francis Hitchens Jacka, John Jaco, and Charles Jacka having all died", his son "Peter swore a canonical oath and affidavit and was able to inherit, providing he carried out a complete inventory for the court by the end of December 1816"
Research Notes
It appears that Benjamin did not marry and start a family until his late fifties.
The reason for this delay is not known, but possibly, given his family heritage, he may have gone to sea and only settled down and married upon his retirement as a sailor.
Benjamin was mentioned in his brother, Peter Jaco’s Will to see more detail Click here no children were mentioned which supports the idea that he hadn't yet got married.
