Biography

Mercy Jane Jacka was born at Mt Duneed Victoria [1] in 1869. She was the daughter of Josiah Jacka and Elizabeth Bottrell. [2]

Mercy Jane Jacka married Humphry Davy in Victoria in 1891. [3]

Marriage. 29 May 1891.
DAVY—JACKA.— On May 21, at the residence of the bride's parents, Mount Moriac, near Geelong, Miss Mercy Jane Jacka, daughter of Mr. Josiah Jacka, and Mr. Humphrey Davy, J.P., of Coon Burra, Balranald, New South Wales, were joined in the holy bonds of matrimony, the Rev. Mr. Dittrick performing the marriage ceremony. Only a few of the immediate relations and friends of the bride were present, and the whole being unostentatious and simple. The bride, who was given away by her father, looked extremely pretty in a very neat cream and grey figured cashmere costume with veil and wreath of orange blossoms. The bridesmaids, Miss Jacka, Miss Eliza Jacka and Miss Davy, sisters of the bride and bridegroom, respectively, looked very nice in white. The house (a quaint old place, out upon the border of a thick forest, shading tangled ferneries) seemed quite a little bower of fragrance , being decorated for the occasion with rose wreaths and festoons of flowers and greenery, giving a pleasing and bright effect to the scene. Breakfast over, and the day spent, the happy couple left by evening train for Geelong, thence to spend a few days at Willakool, Rokewood, with the uncle and aunt of the bride, before returning to New South Wales. [4]

They appear to have had 10 or more children.

Mercy Davy died in Melbourne Victoria in 1955, aged 86 [86y 0m 19d]. [5]
