Biography

Johann Conrad Dietrich Jackemeyer was born on January 13,1804, and baptized in the Lutheran Church in Windheim on the 25th. He was the fourth of 7 children of Johann Friedrich Jackemeyer and Sophie Charlotte Wesemann. On May 6, 1832, he married Clare Sophie "Charlotte" Doermann from Seelenfeld house #17, in the Windheim church. Three years later, in May 1835, the couple left their home for the city of Bremen where they boarded the Ship Copernicus and left Bremerhaven for America. They were the first of the Jackemeyers to come to America. On the ship's manifest, Conrad gave his name as Conrad, but later, in the United States, he went by both of the names Friedrich and Heinrich; his wife used Charlotte. Conrad and Charlotte traveled to Indiana and purchased property on Lortie Road in Jefferson Township in Allen County, southeast of Fort Wayne. The land was across the road from what was to be the homestead of the Jean Pierre Schlemmer family. Friedrich's nephew Conrad Jackemeyer immigrated to Indiana in 1850 and undoubtedly stayed with his uncle. Conrad married Jean Pierre's youngest daughter Catharine Schlemmer in 1854. Friedrich sold his property on Lortie Road and purchased other property in Monroeville. It's is very likely that the Lortie Road property was originally meant to be inherited by Catharine. Friedrich and Charlotte next sold the Monroeville property and moved into Hanna Addition in Fort Wayne in 1861. Conrad and Catharine had purchased property on Seiler Road south of New Haven in 1855. Friedrich and Charlotte joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1866. The very next year both of them got ill and Friedrich died a short time before his wife did, both in 1867. They did not have children.
