Hi James,

Congratulations on being Pre-1700 certified! Now it's time to pick a project that best fits the pre-1700 profiles you'll be working on.

Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Do you have some historically-significant ancestors? Look at the list of active projects to see if one fits your needs.

Once you find a project, visit their project page for more information and to find out how to join. You can also use the Following link to add the project tag to your profile, and you'll get updates on any activity that occurs for that project.

Have questions? We want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Hi James,

I see you are adding your family tree, and thank you for contributing to WikiTree.

You might have noticed that when filling out a profile, if you do not add a name in the 'preferred name' field, the software will fill it in as 'anonymous'. Since we rarely know the preferred name of ancestors, this could lead to a large number of 'anonymous' in the profile names.

It is usually best to fill in the 'preferred name' with the same name as the 'proper first name', and check the radio button "uncertain", for example on Hannah L (Crabb) Jackson.

Hope this is a helpful tip.
