Garry was born about 1798 in North Carolina, possibly in Pasquotank County but the county is not documented. [1][2] By October of 1835 he had acquired 39.8563 acres in Alabama and settled in with his wife and growing family. Gary Jackson is mentioned as a surviving son in James Jackson's 1840 will. He is found on the 1850 census for Marengo county, Alabama[1] and in1860 in the Township 13 R 4 E, Marengo, Alabama.[2] He was a farmer and had several slaves according to the 1850 and 1860 Slave Schedules. Gary and his wife had nine known children which are listed on the 1850 and 1860 census records. He is listed on the 1867 votor list.

In 1850 Gary's wife's name was Nancy. In 1860 his wife's name was Lucy. As of Sep, 2021, no marriage record has been found. It is unknown if Nancy and Lucy are possibly the same woman or different. I've seen records saying his wife was Nancy Halsey Robinson (without documentation); but I firmly believe Nancy Halsey Robinson married a different Jackson.
If anyone can locate Gary's will mentioned in the sources, it would be very helpful if it was transcribed and added to his profile!!
