Biography

Enlisted August 20, 1863 in Company D, First Regiment of the Tennessee Mounted Infantry and was discharged April 25, 1865. He had been promoted to Sergeant in February of 1864.

He was injured when he was thrown from his horse near Celina, Tennessee while serving, but he died before his pension was approved and it was rejected on the grounds that the injury couldn't be proven to have originated during his military service.

He was farming in Ezbon, Kansas in the 1880 Census. It lists his father as from Virginia and his mother from Tennessee. He is living with wife E. A. Jackson, and children S.B., James C., Martha, Moses C., Livinia, and Alonzo B. Based on the birth dates and states of the children, it seems that Moses and Esther Ann were living in Tennessee until at least 1863, but were in Kentucky around 1870, back in Tennessee around 1872, and in Kansas by about 1874. His household is next to that of a S.C. Jackson, aged 33, and wife Lillie Jackson, whose parents are also listed as born in Virginia and Tennessee. I imagine that his was likely Moses' brother.
