Phereby (aka Fereby) Jackson was born before July 1759 if she was at least age 16 when she was named in the will of her father as "Pheriby Philpott" (Martin County Wills, 1774-1810, volume 1, pages 96-97).[1] She was a daughter of William Jackson and Mary Williams.
Phereby Jackson married Charles Philpott before 29 July 1775.[1] Her eldest known son, Samuel Philpott , was born about 1774 so it is estimated that Charles and Phereby married in 1773 or earlier.
On 7 September 1789, Phereby Philpott was named in the will of her husband, Charles Philpott, at Martin County. She was named Executrix, and loaned Charles' land and plantation, stock, furniture, and farm tools during her natural life. After her death the real estate was to be divided between her sons Samuel, and John; and the rest of the estate was to be divided between her five daughters. This shows that Charles Philpott Jr. was not Phereby's biological son (Martin County Wills, 1774-1810, volume 1, pages 162-163).[2]
Fereby Fillpott appeared as head of household on the 1790 U.S. Census at Martin County, North Carolina.[3] Her household included:
The date of Phereby’s death is unknown. She died sometime after the enumeration of the 1790 U.S. Census.
