Biography

Doris, as she was known, was the oldest of 9 children of Patrick H Jackson and ona R. Moon. She grew up mostly in Pittsylvania Co VA and Lynchburg, Virginia. . She married E.C. Colbert "Joe" i 1924, in Gretna. Pittsylvania County Virignia. They moved to Lynchburg, Newport News, back to Lynchburg, up to PA,out to OH, and back to VA. She worked as a governess after raising her daughter and youngest sister. She was killed in an accident in her brother's car when they were rear ended by a Bus on I-95, traveling with her brother and his wife to visit her mother on Mother's Day in 1969. After her husband's death, she lived with her sister Judy and her mother NonaShe was buried in Gretna Burial Park. Before she died,sShe lived long enough to see her only granddaughter graduate from UVA and attended her graduation and wedding, shortly after in Nov. 68. There were 4 generations present at that wedding
