Biography

Minter was born about 1914. He is the son of Minter Jackson and Martha Morgan. [1]

After a long and rewarding life, Dr. Minter Morgan Jackson, 92, died quietly Sunday evening, Nov. 25, 2007, in Louisville, Ky.

The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Taylor Todd will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. The burial will have already taken place at Greenview Cemetery.

Jack, as he was known to his family and friends, was born in his grandmother's home in Abingdon, Va., on April 15, 1915, and was raised in Redford, Va. He attended the University of Virginia, where he earned a B.S. and PhD in Psychology. He taught at UVA until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and rose to the rank of lieutenant commander. After the war, Jack taught at the College of William and Mary before enrolling in John's Hopkins University, where he earned his M.D. degree.

He did his residency at Vanderbilt University, where he met his wife, Caroline Jackson, who preceded him in death. He practiced medicine in Florence from 1955 until 1989.

He was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder and longtime Sunday school teacher. He had been a member of the Florence Garden Club and the Florence Exchange Club.

He is survived by a son, Louis Minter Jackson, Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Abby Todd and husband, Taylor Todd, Birmingham, Ala.; and a son, James Dennis Jackson and wife, Mary W. Jackson, Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren, Caroline Jackson Todd, John Willoughby Jackson and Luke Minter Jackson.
