Martha (Jackson) Hairston is a part of US Black heritage.
Martha was born in 1870 in Virginia. She married Peter Hairston and they moved to Farmville, Virginia where her husband was a well loved merchant. They had four children together, and also raised their niece, Kate Hairston. Her two sons moved to New York City. Her husband passed in October of 1918, and it appears that she might have spent some time living in New York City. She worked as a seamstress. She passed away after 1948.
Her great nephew, Erwin B Lawrence was a Tuskegee airman. He was killed in action in Oct 1944 while on a mission.
